Project 1 Modeling on An Architectural Design

This project involves completion of basic form and external model of a selected architectural design. During this stage the completed 3D model will reflect the knowledge of using the software to create 3D geometries. 3D models will be assessed on the overall detail, complexity and creativity used in the creation and development process.

Work In Progress

AutoCAD Tracing, Rhino extruding

WIP 01

Pre drawn ground floor plan, first floor plan and roof plan are traced via AutoCad.

WIP 02

WIP 7

AutoCad file is imported to Rhino for 3Dmodelling.

WIP 3

Structures is extruded via polylines and surfaces.

WIP 4

Polysurface (solid) being elevated upwards via move. Points are snapped together.

WIP 5

Void is constructed via boolean difference. Surface of void is extruted both side.

WIP 6

When using boolean difference, select surface to subtract from.

WIP 7

The surface to subtract with is then selected and a void is form.

WIP 8

Boolean is used to form the sliding door as well, glass panel is created within the door frames.

Components of the sliding glass panel is grouped and copied.

WIP 9

WIP 10

Sliding glass panel done.

WIP 11

Surface of louvers, columns and wall plates created via surface and polylines.

WIP 12

Surface of columns, wall plates and louvers is extruded to form poly surfaces (solids).

WIP 13

Columns and louvers completed via copy and snap.

WIP 14

First floor plan is extruded via same method as ground floor. ie: extruding surfaces via polylines and surfaces.

WIP 15

Line is rotated for slanted wall surface .

WIP 16

Rotated louvers is extruded and copied. Walls is formed. .

WIP 17

Floors are grouped and connect together via group, and move.

 Contour is constructed via pointson.

WIP 18

Contour lines is patched to create a smooth surface of contour.

WIP 19

Contour is done.

WIP 20

Final Product

Project 2A-Exterior Still Rendering with Materials, Lights, Camera Views with Site Context

The second projects involves the photorealistic still rendering of the selected architecture design with materials, appropriate camera views and post-production enhancement on the visual outcome. The visualisation work would be assessed on the types and ways materials are used, types of lights and effects used to set up the scene, setup of appropriate camera views for rendering and skills of using post-production tools to enhance the visual outcome.

Work In Progress

Application of materiality, lightings, camera views, rendering and post-production

WIP 01

Import the Retreat House rhino file to 3D Max for rendering. Next the environment setting set to MR Physical Sky

WIP 02

Set the Daylight to manual and change the sun to Mr Sun & Mr Sky

WIP 03

Set Mr Sky portal on top of model to enhance the brightness.

WIP 04

Creating Mr Sun & Mr Sky setting.

WIP 05

Creating materials from compact materials editor. Mental ray (Arch & Design) is selected in the materials/map browser. Satin Vanished Wood, Glass with thin geometry and brushed metal is selected to be apply.

WIP 06

Parts are being selected to be applied with the materials chosen.

WIP 07

Contour is being removed. First and second eye level view are chosen. The camera settings are then applied and set.

WIP 08

The views are then being rendered with the resolution setting of 600x800. The rendered views are then saved as PNG files to be imported into Photoshop.

Import downloaded background image into Photoshop to be rendered along with the existing PNG image of the rendered 3D model.

WIP 09

The End Product

2 eye level views of Retreat house

RENDERED VIEW 1

RENDERED VIEW 2

Project 2b-Interior Still Rendering with Materials, Lights, Camera Views with Site Context

The second projects involves the photorealistic still rendering of the selected architecture design with materials, appropriate camera views and post-production enhancement on the visual outcome. The visualisation work would be assessed on the types and ways materials are used, types of lights and effects used to set up the scene, setup of appropriate camera views for rendering and skills of using post-production tools to enhance the visual outcome

WORK IN PROGRESS

Application of furnitures, materiality, lightings, camera views, rendering and post-production

WIP 01

WIP 01

Camera 1 and 2 is set to frame the interior view or the retreat house Camera 1 is focusing on the interior of bedroom whereas camera 2 on the living space.

WIP 02

Furnitures modeling is being downloaded from archieve3D, import into 3Dmax and rescale to actual size. Materials and texture were applied to the surfaces through bitmap.

WIP 03

Furniture is then move and rotate to preferred position in the retreat house.

WIP 04

Environment is set to Physically Based Lighting, Indoor Daylight to provide the interiors best natural lighting. The exposure value is set to 10.0

WIP 05

Image is then rendered and saved as png file for post editing in photoshop.

WIP 06

Image of tropical forest is chosen as the background image of retreat house.

The End Product

2 eye level interior views of Retreat house

View 1 featuring the living space

View 2 featuring the bed room of retreat house.

PROJECT 3 - A Maximum 90 Seconds Animation of the Completed 3D Scene

This project involves production of a maximum 90 seconds animationb of the completed 3D scene using 3Ds Max's animation commands and tools. It also involves simple video editing work such as stictching video clips, background music & special effects editing, through the use of Windows Movie Maker, i move, Adobe Premiere and After Effects.

Work In Progress

Camera, Lightings, Path & Post Production Animation

WIP 01

Line is constructed along the designated path. The edges of the line is smoothen using berzier corner and berzier tool.

WIP 02

Walkthrough camera (free) is added onto the scene. This is done by selecting the walkthrough animation camera from the animation tab in the ribbon above.

Time configuration is opened to be adjusted accordingly to preferences. The FPS was set to 30 and its sufficiency is tested. The time display is also changed from ticks to minutes and seconds. From here, time is set to preffered length.

WIP 03

Animations ( Scenes) were added into windows movie makers and compile into a 60 seconds short video. Music is then added and edited to suit the video.

WIP 04

The End Product

A Retreat house in the forest
